Bahraini Doctor's Day

In implementation of the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Honorable Prime Minister, and the initiative of His Highness, the Bahraini Doctor Day was adopted on the first Wednesday of November every year. On this day, a ceremony will be held to honor the winners of the "Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Bahraini Doctor" award. The adoption of this initiative coincided with the exceptional circumstances that the Kingdom of Bahrain and the world is going through, represented by the repercussions of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has cast its shadows on various vital sectors, especially the health sector. The Bahraini Doctor Day was declared in an appropriate time context, to highlight the clear efforts made by Bahraini doctors, as they are still providing inspiring examples of sacrifice and giving in the service of the nation.

The Cabinet’s decision to approve the Bahraini Doctor’s Day was highly welcomed by regional and international health institutions and organizations.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, said that this step reflects the meanings of appreciation and honor for workers in the health sector, and the efforts made by His Royal Highness the Prime Minister in the fight against the pandemic of the emerging Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, emphasized that such a step to appreciate and honor doctors and workers in the health sector reflects many positive orientations that the World Health Organization will soon reap results from the efforts to fight the emerging coronavirus (COVID-19), not only in the Kingdom of Bahrain, but also at the regional level as a whole, stressing its positive impact and resonance in motivating the various countries of the region to follow the example of the Kingdom of Bahrain in honoring doctors and other health workers and appreciating their great efforts in preserving the health of people and societies.
Sulaiman bin Saleh Al-Dakhil, Director of The GCC Health Council paid tribute to the decision and said in a cable to His Royal Highness the Prime Minister on this occasion: “We in the Gulf Health Council appreciate this initiative as an acknowledgement of the great role played by Bahraini doctors in the interest of the nation and society health."
